Pandesal -Filipino Bread Rolls

Pandesal is a very popular Filipino sweet bun that is usually eaten for breakfast.  We never ate it a lot growing up, it was always something that visitors brought or I saw in the Filipino bakeries and stores in Vancouver.   It is great with cheese, corned beef or just butter !  I only got interested in making it myself when a few of us at work started ordering Spam and egg pandesal sandwiches at a Filipino food truck near our office.  This recipe is the first one I have tried and I love it so much I see no need to tweak it or try others!  The dough is so soft and easy to work with.  I usually make bread dough in my breadmaker on the dough cycle. I know lots of folks use a Kitchenaid with the dough hook or knead by hand and I think that this recipe can be used for any type of bread dough making method.

Makes 24 buns

Ingredients:

3 cups flour

1 cup milk

1 large egg

2 tbsp butter, melted

1/4 cup sugar

1 tsp salt

1 1/2 tsp yeast

After the first rise, punch the dough down and pat into a thick rectangle.

 Cut it into 4 strips.

Roll  each strip gently and then cut into 6 pieces.

Dip the cut top and bottom in fine panko crumbs

Cover with a tea towel and rise again for about 45 minutes

Bake for ~15 minutes at 350F
